Maria Nicholson (nee Hawkins) with daughters I came across my Oxfordshire family roots by chance after a recent visit to the Oxfordshire Records Office. My 2nd Great Grandmother Eliza Moore lived in Dedham, Essex. After looking at the Census I found that Eliza came from Hanborough, Oxon. I then checked her Marriage certificate and found that her maiden name was Hawkins. Eliza Hawkins was baptised 13th August 1852 in Hanborough, Oxfordshire. She was the daughter of William Hawkins a Railway Worker & Ellen Long. William Hawkins married Ellen Long on 31st May 1852 in Hanborough. Ellen was the daughter of Edmund Long & Ann Clark. She was baptised 19th July 1828 at Comebe St Laurence, Oxfordshire I found William & Ellen Hawkins on the 1881 Census in London living at 4 Dagmar Terrace, Dagmar Road, Lambeth, Surrey. William Hawkins was born in 1836 in Hertford son of John Hawkins. Maria Hawkins was a younger sister of Eliza Hawkins. Maria was born in 1858 in Blackham, Suffolk. Maria was married to Walter Germany Nicholson in 1878. A photo of Maria & her daughters is above. The Long family were Farmers & Carpenters in the Bladon & Hanborough area. Several of the ladies worked as Glove Makers.
